About
Kia ora, I’m Jono – a photographer based in Wellington, New Zealand. My work is driven by curiosity about the relationship between people and the natural world, and how that connection shapes our everyday lives.
Like many species, humans reshape their environment to suit their needs, but we’ve done so on a scale that’s truly transformative. I’ve long been fascinated by this dynamic: how we alter landscapes, construct environments, and leave our mark on nature. This interest has inspired both a passion for environmentalism and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Through my photography, I explore the traces we leave behind—those subtle and not-so-subtle signs of life where human intention meets the natural world. I’m particularly interested in the tension and harmony between built structures and the landscapes they inhabit. My aim is to document these interactions and invite others to reflect on how we shape, and are shaped by, the world around us.

Photography is a big part of my life, but I also work full-time as a paramedic here in Wellington. Because of that, my schedule can be a bit unpredictable at times—so if I don’t respond right away, please know I’m not ignoring you! I truly appreciate your patience and will do my best to reply as soon as I’m able.
Thanks for reaching out, and I look forward to connecting with you.
Gear
I recently went on a mission to slim down my camera gear as I was finding the bulk of big lenses a deterrent to actually picking them up and shooting. I'm thrilled with the minimal setup I have now and it seems to be working great for the work I do.
- Sony A7 III
- Fujifilm X100V
- Sony FE 20-70 F4 G
- Samyang AF 75 F1.8
- Freewell VND X MIST variable ND filter
- DJI Mini 3 Pro
I’ve also recently started shooting film on a variety of vintage cameras. Some work from these experiments to come!
