I'm Jono, a Wellington photographer exploring nature and our connection to place

Collections & Projects

  • Green rolling hills with small structures on top, under an overcast sky, and the word "EARTH" in large white letters overlaying the image.

    Earth

Inland scenes, far from the shifting coast, where the landscape tells a quieter story. Traces of human presence in roads, fields, and structures reveal how we shape, and are shaped by the land. Explore the relationship between people and place across Aotearoa’s interior.

  • Aerial view of a beach with waves crashing on the shore, overlaid with the word 'SEA' in large, semi-transparent blue font.

    Sea

Images taken near the sea, capturing the unique interplay between water, land, and human presence. See how the rhythms of the ocean shape coastal landscapes and how people have left their marks along the shore, highlighting the balance and dialogue between nature and human life.

  • Black and white photo of a waterfront scene with a blurred person walking near a street lamp. The word 'URBAN' is overlaid on the image in large letters.

    Urban

The pulse of urban and city environments. Explore the interplay between human activity and the built landscape. From busy streets and architectural details to hidden corners and everyday moments, these photographs reveal the diverse ways people inhabit, shape, and are influenced by the city around them.

  • Pastoral landscape with a fence, wooden structures, sheep, and green trees in the background, with the words 'SECOND NATURE' overlaid.

    Second Nature - Book Project

A quiet exploration of the evolving relationship between human-made structures and the natural environment. A collection of images that examine how built forms, both temporary and enduring, coexist with, disrupt, respond to, and sometimes are reclaimed by the landscapes they inhabit.
