Shared Ground
The Monochrome Project in the heart of urban New Zealand
A purely black and white exploration of shapes and shadows
Busy streets - quiet moments - perfect timing
The universal experience of occupying public space together
The Monochrome Project
Shared Ground is a black and white exploration of the fleeting relationships between light, shadow, form, and human presence within the urban landscape. Moving through busy streets and crowded spaces, the work searches for quiet moments of visual clarity hidden within the constant movement of the city.
Stripped of colour and distraction, the images reduce the world to its essential elements: shape, contrast, gesture, and timing. Through careful observation and patient anticipation, ordinary scenes become studies of balance, coincidence, and connection. A passing figure, an unexpected alignment, a shadow falling at precisely the right moment; each photograph is an attempt to recognise and preserve these brief intersections before they disappear.
Rather than documenting specific places or events, Shared Ground reflects on the universal experience of occupying public space together. It is a project about noticing: finding moments of order within chaos, stillness within movement, and meaning within the everyday.
